A drinking song W B Yeats Wine comes in at the mouth And love comes in at the eye; That’s all we shall know for truth Before we grow old and die. I lift the glass to my mouth, I look at you, and I sigh.
Love Sonnet 130
By William Shakespeare
My mistress’ eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips’ red; If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun; If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. I have seen roses damask’d, red and white, But no such roses see I in her cheeks; And in some perfumes is there more delight Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know That music hath a far more pleasing sound; I grant I never saw a goddess go; My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground: And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare As any she belied with false compare.
Valentine By John Fuller
The things about you I appreciate may seem indelicate: I’d like to find you in the shower And chase the soap for half an hour. I’d like to have you in my power and see your eyes dilate. I’d like to have your back to scour And other parts to lubricate. Sometimes I feel it is my fate To chase you screaming up a tower or make you cower By asking you to differentiate Nietzsche from Schopenhauer. I’d like to successfully guess your weight and win you at a féte. I’d like to offer you a flower.
Wild night
By Emily Dickson
Wild nights! Wild nights! Were I with thee, Wild nights should be Our luxury!
Futile the winds To a heart in port, Done with the compass, Done with the chart.
Rowing in Eden! Ah! the sea! Might I but moor To-night in thee!
She walks in beauty, like the night
A Red, Red Rose
So We'll Go No More a Roving
So, we'll go no more a roving Though the heart be still as loving, For the sword outwears its sheath, By the light of the moon.
LOVE'S PHILOSOPHY
The fountains mingle with the river, Nothing in the world is single; See, the mountains kiss high heaven,
A Poet To His Beloved William Butler Yeats I BRING you with reverent hands The books of my numberless dreams, White woman that passion has worn As the tide wears the dove-grey sands, And with heart more old than the horn That is brimmed from the pale fire of time: White woman with numberless dreams, I bring you my passionate rhyme.
