The Mid-Autumn Festival
Tune: Prelude to Water Melody
Translated: Tulip
When can I see the full moon bright?
Holding wine cup I ask the blue sky.
I wander what date of year is today
In the moon palace of fairy maid?
I want to get home by wings in the air
But so high is the jade moon I care,
Also for me extremely cold there.
Up and down to my shadow I dance,
As ease as a floating celestial part.
The moon moves near the red house,
Leans against silk curtains around,
Shedding her light on the sleepless brow.
Man shouldn’t regret all the time,
Why does she, in parting full shine?
Grief and joy often go with parting and meeting,
The moon gets bright or dim as she waxes or wanes,
No one can be of perfect down the ages.
I bless my brother from afar
Long life forever in my heart.
Thousands of miles away from thee
Yet you’ll share her beauty with me!
