She walks in Beauty
George Gordon Byron
She walks in Beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o'er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
注： 1814年6月11日拜伦首度在好友James W. Webster的引荐下，到Lady Sitwell的家中，在舞会上与其表妹霍顿夫人（Lady Wilmot Horton）相遇，当时这位寡寡的美丽夫人仍在服丧，穿着“一件金箔闪烁的黑色晨服”（a mourning dress of spangled black），她美丽的容貌，优雅的仪态，令诗人怦然心动，第二天便写就了这首脍炙人口的She Walks in Beauty，留下了他惊艳时的心情。
