I travelled among unknown men，
In lands beyond the sea；
Nor，England! Did I know till then
What love I bore to thee.

’Tis past，that melancholy dream!
Nor will I quit thy shore
A second time；for still I seem
To love thee more and more.

Among thy mountains did I feel
The joy of my desire；
And she I cherished turned her wheel
Beside an English fire.

Thy mornings showed，thy nights concealed，
The bowers where Lucy played；
And thine too is the last green field
That Lucy’s eyes surveyed.


➀这是“露西组诗”之一。在这首诗中，作者对英格兰的爱与对露西的爱密不可分，露西的形象几乎与英格兰融为一体。诗中的“你”是指英格兰。

遇见的都是陌路人，
英格兰！那时我才懂得
我对你的爱有多深。

过去了，那段忧郁的梦！
从今我不会再离别，
因为我感到了爱你之情
已愈加的强烈。

在你的山河里，我才能感到
我所渴望的欢乐；
我会静静看她在炉边
慢慢摇着纺车。

你晨光照亮的，你夜色隐去的，
是露西游憩的亭榭，
露西她最后一眼眺望的
是你碧绿的原野。
