Earth has not anything to show more fair:
Dull would he be of soul who could pass by
A sight so touching in its majesty:
This City now doth，like a garment，wear
The beauty of the morning；silent，bare，
Ships，towers，domes，theatres，and temples lie
Open unto the fields，and to the sky；
All bright and glittering in the smokeless air.
Never did sun more beautifully steep
In his first splendour，valley，rock，or hill；
Ne’er saw I，never felt，a calm so deep!
The river glideth at his own sweet will:
Dear God! the very houses seem asleep；
And all that mighty heart is lying still➁!

这仿佛是大地最美的景象，
有谁能目睹这壮丽，这辉煌，
竟一走而过，无动于衷？
此刻，这座城市，像披一件新装，
披着美丽的晨光，安静，袒露，
船桅，尖塔，穹顶，戏院，教堂，
皆争入云天，斜映郊外，
在晶莹的晨风中闪烁着光芒。
朝阳从未把这样美丽的初辉
抹上溪谷，岩石，山冈，
我从未见过，从未感受到这般静谧，
河水在自由欢畅地流向远方，
亲爱的上帝，万户仍似在沉睡，
那颗巨心也像依然躺在梦乡。
