Shout，for a mighty Victory is won!
On British ground the Invaders are laid low；
The breath of Heaven has drifted them like snow，
And left them lying in the silent sun，
Never to rise again!—the work is done.
Come forth，ye old men，now in peaceful show
And greet your sons! drums beat and trumpets blow!
Make merry，wives! ye little children，stun
Your grandame’s ears with pleasure of your noise!
Clap，infants，clap your hands! Divine must be
That triumph，when the very worst，the pain，
And even the prospect of our brethren slain，
Hath something in it which the heart enjoys:—
In glory will they sleep and endless sanctity.

➀这首诗的内容，是出于诗人的想象，想象拿破仑的军队入侵英国，被打得尸横遍野，一败涂地，英国军民庆祝胜利，举国狂欢。写这首诗的目的，显然在于鼓舞英国的士气民心。事实上，入侵英国的战役，拿破仑虽曾精心筹划，多方准备，但始终未能付诸实施。

在英伦之土，侵略者终被消灭，
骄阳默觑遍野的尸骸，
天国的雄风横扫肌膏如残雪。
敌寇已亡，英伦大获全胜，
父亲，母亲，来欢庆和平，迎接
你们的儿女吧！锣鼓喧天，号声嘹亮，
女人流下热泪，儿童尖呼雀跃，
老人乐得头晕，震得耳鸣，婴儿
也都拍起了小手，神助大捷！
虽然战争造成巨大的灾难和痛苦，
无数英雄儿女流尽了鲜血，
但是胜利仍让我们欣慰不已——
烈士长眠荣光之中，永蒙天爵。

父亲，母亲，来欢庆和平，迎接
你们的儿女吧！锣鼓喧天，号声嘹亮，

改写处，主要是这四行。old men，译为父亲，母亲。grandame，译为老人。译文老人乐得头晕，为增意；震得耳鸣，可指锣鼓喧天，号声嘹亮，及儿童尖呼雀跃，震得老人耳鸣。
