I shall imagine life

by E. E. Cummings

I shall imagine life
is not worth dying, if
(and when) roses complain
their beauties are in vain

but though mankind persuades
itself that every weed's
a rose, roses (you feel
certain) will only smile

-------------------------------

Willian Wordsworth

            圣洁的小溪在身边流淌,
            没有谁把这少女赞颂,
            少有人为她挂肚牵肠。

       她是紫罗兰身影半露,
            生苔的墓碑将她遮挡;
            美丽如一颗孤星,
            在夜空里闪闪发亮。

       没有谁了解她曾活在世上,   (应去掉曾活在)
            少有人知道她何时夭亡;
            露西躺在墓中,啊,
            我的心变得一片苍凉。

She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways

 She dwelt among the untrodden ways
 Beside the springs of Dove,
 A Maid whom there were none to praise
 And very few to love:
 A violet by a mossy stone
 Half hidden from the eye!
─Fair as a star , when only one
 Is shining in the sky.

 She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
 But she is in her grave, and ,oh,
The difference to me!

Remember Man as you go by
As you are now so once was I
As I am now so shall you be,
Prepare yourself to follow me

Stop traveller and cast an eye,
As you are now so once was I,
Prepare in time make no delay
For youth and time will pass away.

Good people dear as you pass by,
On my cold grave do cast an eye
As you are now so once was I,
As I am now so shall you be,
Prepare for death and follow me.

Cast a cold eye
On life, on death
Horseman Pass by!

I won’t be content
Until I know which way you went.

I won’t be content
Until I know which way you went.

I won’t be content
Until I know which way you went.

44. THE world rushes on over the strings
of the lingering heart making the music
of sadness.

45.  HE has made his weapons his gods,
When his weapons win he is de-
feated himself.

46. GOD finds himself by creating.

47. SHADOW, with her veil drawn, follows
Light in secret meekness, with her
silent steps of love.

48. THE stars are not afraid to appear

49.  I THANK thee that I am none of the

living creatures that are crushed by it.

I THANK thee that I am none of the
wheels of power but I am one of the
living creatures that are crushed by them.

50. THE mind, sharp but not broad,

       by Pamela Spiro Wagner

How to Read a Poem: Beginner's Manual
by Pamela Spiro Wagner

First, forget everything you have learned,
that poetry is difficult,
that it cannot be appreciated by the likes of you,
with your high school equivalency diploma,
your steel-tipped boots,
or your white-collar misunderstandings.

Do not assume meanings hidden from you:
the best poems mean what they say and say it.

To read poetry requires only courage
enough to leap from the edge
and trust.

Treat a poem like dirt,
humus rich and heavy from the garden.
Later it will become the fat tomatoes
and golden squash piled high upon your kitchen table.

Poetry demands surrender,
language saying what is true,
doing holy things to the ordinary.

Read just one poem a day.
Someday a book of poems may open in your hands
like a daffodil offering its cup
to the sun.

When you can name five poets
without including Bob Dylan,
when you exceed your quota
and don't even notice,
close this manual.

Congratulations.
You can now read poetry.

Peach Blossoms

by Xu Jiantong

The day I was born, it was rich of peach blossoms
The night I got married, it was rich of peach blossoms
The moment I died, it was rich of peach blossoms
They were actually ——
my teardrops, blood stains, and last testament
                           ( 1.  chinglish in typical )

Fly and The Map

by Shi Huang

A fly, on the map, is recklessly running
from Shandong to Shanghai, and then from Henan to Hubei
The man holding a fly-swatter in his hand has no idea how to go get it
Killing a fly is fairly easy. However stains would remain where it dies
and won't be easy to remove

Urbanisation

by Mu Rong

End of the day, we have to fiction it all
making up cooking smoke, crop fields, old houses and buffalo
or making up hillocks of tomb soils
containing those no-where-to-place
homesicknesses

Craftsmen

by Mengzhi Fuqiao

Orthopedist and carpenter are both craftsmen
One knocks on human bodies, another on woods
apparently the carpenter is more skilful
as we never heard woods screaming in pain

Light a Lamp

by Xu Lanxiang

I beg those little underground bugs
while biting my father, a forty-five year old body
to be soft, and softer please
Not to break the wick in his bones 'cause
he needs it to live on, and light his way back home

Scaffolds

by Fan Jianjun

On first day in town, my farmer brother submitted himself to Christ
He cried out on scaffolds, "I am Jesus".
Another brother beside him laughed, "I am Jesus too".
Cutting off those scaffolds, we would have seen many individual crosses
Every time I went to see them, I felt like visiting a church

On first day in town, my farmer brother submitted himself to Christ
