    “守灵资料网站”剧情简介：他试图站起来——四个人阻止了他。
   
    前一自然段写先知传道及在世界上的遭遇，这遭遇就是芬尼根苏醒后的遭遇，本自然段接着回到了这个场景，世人不让他苏醒，以免他继续糟蹋世界，所以一个声音（说话者指的是ALP，睡在丈夫身边）在发号施令，让四个人（一说是十二人）按住他，让他回到睡眠，或死亡。
    这四个人有两个是明确说出的，一个是以西结.艾恩斯，一个是季米特里乌斯.奥.弗拉戈南。
    以西结.艾恩斯是铁器时代的人（因为他是教区职员和渔夫），化身在此，代表古老的宗教。渔夫这个身份是不是代表《天方夜谭》中的某种隐喻不清楚。
    季米特里乌斯是个俄国名字，是从一首饮酒歌曲《恩尼斯卡锡》中借来的，在这首歌的开头，我们被告知，Demetrius O 'Flannigan McCarthy是舞会和聚会的骄傲，也是守灵的荣耀(Pomeranz 53)。
    这里暗示了酒神，即饮酒歌就是治愈芬尼根狂饮的歌曲，但也是先知最容易产生迷狂智慧的东西。

    显然，弥尔顿把毒蛇描写为邪恶的，具有魔鬼性质的东西，这么描写根据是什么我们无从得知，但我个人认为弥尔顿未必就抓住了希伯来文化中核心的东西，比如说毒蛇和天使的亲缘关系的根源，但这个根源是什么我也不知道。
